Re: Petrol tap gauze filter thread
Yes, Les, you're right. 1/4 BSP is the usual petrol tank tap thread size. But for reasons in the past only to be guessed at, it's a 1/8 BSP in this instance. Not the best size. I think I will go ahead with tapping the other (filter) end of this petrol tap to 1/4 x40 TPI M. E. to be able to screw in ...

Re: Petrol tap gauze filter thread
I have seen filters soldered into taps. I think soldering would a tricky business with gauze and such a small fixture and I am not sure how that would have been done originally. I think I would make a mess of it. I think I have seen instances where the filter was screwed in & could be removed. I...

Petrol tap gauze filter thread
I have inherited a push-pull petrol tap and a gauze filter to fit to it but the filter has no thread in it at the moment to screw the filter into it & so I will have to tap the filter to take the filter The thread on the filter is 1/4 x 40TPI as best I can measure. Is this 1/4 x 40TPI ME (Model ...

Anyone remember K. Witts motorcycle dealer in Devizes, Wilts.?
I’m about finished the complete restoration of an NH Ariel probably made in 1957 & sent by the Ariel factory to K.Witts of Southbroom Place& Sidmouth Parade, Devizes, Wiltshire, presumably the local Ariel agent, but only registered in 1959. The first owner who sold it to me in about 1969, sa...

Re: Transfers - Jerry Mortimore's articles Set '93 to to Feb'94
Thanks, John & Jerry. I have had a look at the Club archives as you suggested but the Cheval articles on transfers are from 1993-4 so they not there as far as I can see. All it is is that I am in the later stages of painting/restoring both a 1959 VH & a 1959 NH & am not sure about which ...

Transfers - Jerry Mortimore's articles Set '93 to to Feb'94
Is there anywhere online one can view the series of articles written by Jerry Mortimore in Cheval de Fer between Sept 1993 & Feb 1994 about Ariel Transfers?

Footrest spline repair 1959 NH
The LH rider footrest spline on the frame I'm getting ready for painting is a bit bent, the splines flattened & the O.D. is 0.716 inches as compared to 0.739 inches on the RH spline. The bike has been on the road on its side too many times in the long distant past. By the way, I'm assuming LH &a...
