Re: cylinder to head mating question - w/ng
... making a copper gasket as per John Nash's suggestion to sit on top of the spigot. Is there a particular type of copper which I should try and find? approx. 0.025" do you think? I got it from David Anderson, on the forum, here: http://forum.arielownersmcc.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=12399&...

Re: cylinder to head mating question - w/ng
I followed david Anderson's advice, when I had issues lapping a 500 iron head (the head would have needed a lot of lapping to get it onto spigot - likely due to mismatched parts from different places ) and made up a copper gasket to sit on the spigot. Seems to work

Re: Ariel Riding and Fixing 2023
The tree is usually down the bank a fair way, alongside the river. One of the cars is abandoned, prob after an aborted crossing. I was staring at it yesterday wondering if my wng would make it through .... in the end, I went round the very long way. Seems flooding is becoming common nowadays, for a ...

Re: cylinder to head mating question - w/ng
When you drop the head onto the barrel, without the pushrod tubes, pushrod or headbolts in, then it will sit on the raised spigot. You can rotate it 360 degrees- which you need in order to grind the joint to an airtight seal.

Re: Gearbox type and plunger/push rod query
You can always add an extra plate by taking the lip off the back of the centre. You then take off the tabs on the outside of a clutch plate. That plate now goes in first, and bears on the clutch basket, followed by a another plain plate. Then it's all the existing plates in the same order. I've done...

I've got some standards.
They're all without rings or pins tho - sorry.

Re: VH500 piston wanted
I've only got a spare +20 and it's dished.
It's a heplex, but there is no pin.
I had a JP piston in another 500 I had. I didn't notice any additional vibration. I did bore a little more clearance and I did have to take a little off the small end bush.

FS: KH dynamo gear
I have a 24T, step in back, KH dynamo gear for sale. I'm unlikely to use it.
Think it's seen some light use, as there are a handful of burrs (one larger, the rest tiny), but that might be storage related.
