Re: Black Ariel identification?
If I decide to go ahead with the project I will definitely be taking lots of 'before' pictures as, right now, it does look somewhat tired. That said, the frame appears to be intact and have all its original bracketry etc., and there is little evidence of extra bits welded on, or attempts to make it ...

Re: Black Ariel identification?
Thanks for that information Roger, I can most likely figure out all the other answers I need from the excellent resources available elsewhere on the AOMCC website. Interesting combination of Czechoslovakia and Canada - I guess with the advent of Ebay and other such websites parts from far and wide c...

Black Ariel identification?
Hello A friend of mine has acquired what appears to be (most) of a Black Ariel; reportedly of 1928 vintage. Before he tries to sell it to me, could someone at the club help with positive identification please? A decision on purchase will depend on several factors, not least of which is availability ...

I do not use any of the 'social media' sites, but thanks for the offer. The photos you posted are already very helpful.

Re: '39 Sq4 exhaust conundrum
Thanks Colin and Roger. I thought that might be the case, but wanted to make sure I hadn't made an obvious error. I did an extensive internet search, but do you think I could find a clear front-on photo of an iron head Sq4 on the internet?

'39 Sq4 exhaust conundrum
Can anyone please explain why the finned exhaust clamps do not fit between the exhaust outlet stub on the manifold and the cylinder head on my '39 4G Sq4? As far as I can tell, all parts are correct for the bike ie., the manifolds came with the (disassembled) project bike and the clamps appear to be...

Re: '39 Sq4 side stand retaing clip wanted
Hi Karol. Thanks for the reply. The original factory side stand fits on the right side of the front engine plate and folds back parallel to the lower frame rail where it is held in place by a spring clip retainer (the bit I need). There is a photo of the clip on the main chat forum, but I'm not sure...

Re: '39 Sq4 side stand retaing clip wanted
Thanks for the reply Johnny and Simon. I have not had any luck with Ebay (does anyone know how to filter out all the Little Mermaid paraphernalia when searching Ariel parts?). I am expecting I will have to fabricate the spring clip. Fortunately I was a metalworker in a past life.
