Re: KH500 Crankshaft Location
Got it wrong in my first post I set (or thought I did) the crankshaft clearance to between 2 & 4 thou. I have done some calculations and taking account of the difference in expansion rates between phosphor bronze and steel it seems (according to my reckoning which must not be taken as gospel) th...

Re: KH500 Crankshaft Location
The bush is a standard white metal from Drags which was lined bored by T & L. I think body of the bush is phoshor bronze.

KH500 Crankshaft Location
Just got the 1951 KH500 running and done about 100 miles and all seemed good after a complete engine overall. Until yesterday whilst out on the longest run yet about 20 miles non stop when it felt as though the engine was tightening up. I pulled the clutch and stopped. I checked the plugs, not runni...

Re: KH500 Tappet Vlearsnces
Thanks for your views, I have left it at 5 & 8 as for the later camshafts and now the tank is on is sounds much better, I had first started it with a lash up temporary container.

KH500 Tappet Vlearsnces
I am nearing the end of my refurbishment of a KH500 (it left the factory 19/11/1951). According to a service bulletin those before 16/2/1952 had .002 tappet clearance but after this date quietening ramps camshafts were fitted and the clearances were .005 in and .008 ex. To indicate these cams were f...

Re: KH 500 Piston Ring Fitting
Thanks I contacted IMD and very helpful they were. The IMD letters and size marked on both compression rings go to the top. The darker coloured ring is the second down and the tiny recess on the OD faces downwards, this surprised me when I first unpacked the rings I thought it was a ridge dodger top...

KH 500 Piston Ring Fitting
I am looking to fit the rings to the IMD club pistons but not sure about which groove or which way up the compression rings go. One has a tiny recess turned on the OD and the other has a tiny chamfer on the ID. No instructions came with them any ideas please?

KH 500 Engine Rebuild
I have got my 1952 model KH 500 engine back from T & L Engineering who I found are great with old British engines. The block has been sleeved back to std bore, the head fitted with inserts and new guides, the crank ground and balanced with new shells, the crankcase lined bored for the new timing...
