Re: ba clutch adjustment

Thanks Roger, that makes more sense and is inline with what I was thinking. The cable that was fitted had a brass ferule that fitted into the homemade cable adjuster which screwed back towards the centre of the bike to adjust. This gave the cable a torturous route. I will make a new adjuster as I am...

Re: ba clutch adjustment

Thanks for the reply Will. I have had a quick look at the bike this morning and I am now assuming that the home made cable adjuster is not correct. When the clutch pusher mechanism is hard against the casing there is about 3" to the rear of the threaded boss on the gearbox casing. The threaded ...

ba clutch adjustment

I am trying to sort out the 1939 VG I bought a couple of years ago. The clutch cable needed replacing as it was past its sell by date and didn't seem correct for the bike. A new cable was purchased from Draganfly. It was a good bit shorter on the inner cable than the one removed and when fitted to t...

Cam Followers

Wanted :- a pair of cam followers (1800-31) to fit my 1938 VG. The bike was fitted with a single lobe cam and I wish to fit the correct twin lobe cam but have no followers. Any condition as long as they are suitable for use or reconditioning.
Thanks, Steve Smith

Re: Cam identification

Thanks for the replies. I know that the pushrods are steel so will stick with the 2 thou setting. I did try it with the 6 & 8 thou setting but it seemed very noisy. No doubt at the end of the year I will be looking for a bit more speed!
Many thanks, Steve

Cam identification

Hi all. I have a 1938 VG engine in my bike that has been fitted with a single lobe cam. Is there any way to tell if it has been ground with the quieting ramp? Should I stick with the 0.002" clearance?

Re: 1939 tank rubbers

Thanks for the clarification Roger. I must admit that I was a bit confused with the number of rubber washers/spacers and 3 different lengths of bolt! I had drilled and wire locked the existing bolts. I still have a lifetime supply of stainless lock wire left over from years of racing old motorcycles...

1939 tank rubbers

I am putting my 1939 framed bike back together ready for the forthcoming better weather. The tank rubbers have seen better days and looking through the parts book I see that they list 4 rubber washers at 5/8" and 6 at 3/8". Are the extra 2 3/8" washers to go above the front mounting? ...

Re: 1928 Bolts

In general engineering terms studs screw into a casting or sub-assembly where frequent disassembly may take place. The studs are locked into the casting (or sub-assembly) which is normally a softer material than the stud. This protects the threads in the softer material. A tie bolt ties two or more ...

Re: 1960's Trials Sidecar Wanted

Hi John,
I think I still have an old trials sidecar kicking about. I am up in Scotland between Edinburgh and Glasgow so if that is of any use I will dig it out and send some photos. I was going to fit it to a Bultaco years ago but ended up selling the bike.
