Thank all for the replies. Just a thought though, it does seem bad engineering practice to have a spring bearing directly onto a rubber seal though. Surely a thin protective shim between the spring and rubber seal would be beneficial.

Hi. Can anyone advise me where the small oil seal on the gear indicator shaft should be fitted please. Is it on the shaft itself against the lip of the bush inside the case, or is it just pushed into the hole behind indicator disc and spring on the outside of the outer case. Hi. Got my steering damper sorted out now thanks to forum help, now the gearbox. Reasonably good gear changes up and down except that she occasionally jumps out of first gear. All other gears good. To avoid sudden power loss (and inevitable wobble), I tend to keep pressure on the gear lever in first...

Quick update. Eureka!! I could see the retaining peg at the rear of the boss but it looked like a blind hole with no exit. The reason being that a previous owner had mounted the horn bracket on the boss thus obscuring the through hole with his bracket. Problem solved. I can now remove it if I have t...

VB600 damper rod.

Hi all. This is my first post on the forum and hope someone can tell me how to remove the steering damper rod. I have the Waller manual but cannot see the locating peg which will, after removal, allow the rod to drop down and be removed.
