Arrows at my local classic vehicle show

Well, here's a brace of Arrows at the Abergavenny show on Sunday. One original and the other heavily modified with big carb and expansion chambers, wide rims etc. I did not get to meet the owners but thought the pics may be of interest to Ariel owners. Sorry about the orientation of the pictures, I ...

Re: Arrow warm-up

Just check the float bowl level too, that will make a difference. I made up a fuel level indicator by drilling out a spare float bowl drain plug and attaching some clear plastic hose. Great for checking float bowl level and if you keep it on, great for draining the fuel out of the carb as well, when...

Re: Arrow warm-up

It is important to fully warm the engine anyway, so a few mins is a nice period to get all those different metals nice and warmed up to operating temperature. Sometimes a notch up or down is too much either way, so try placing a very thin washer under the needle clip. Also, the fuel in the carb if l...

Re: Ariel Arrow 1964 for sale

Just to chip in here, to give the guy an idea of the value. No doubt this may be bad news but the bike would in my opinion might be worth £3500 insurance value. In the cold reality of selling the bike in the winter, its more likely to be around £2250 to a member of the general public, due to the man...

Re: Still wont Start!

I use an Amal MK 1 Concentric with removable idle jet size 30. Just out of interest, what's your set up on the Mikuni?

Re: Still wont Start!

May be a long shot but sometimes the float in the carb sticks, give it a tap with a long screwdriver. Mine is sometimes a pig to start, fuel to plugs etc, but I tap the float bowl, and she fires up. So maybe not enough fuel on choke, to start the old girl!

Re: Still wont Start!

Also squirt some good old oil down the plug holes and this will help seal the rings a bit, particularly if you have just de glazed them. Ypu might be getting blow by.

Re: Stepped piston rings

Found this The ring gap should be around 0.4 to 0.5% of the piston diameter and can be measured by placing the ring in the cylinder and using a feeler gauge. Normally it is not needed to modify the ring gap.

Re: Stepped piston rings

I have never heard of filing down the ring stops "Pegs". These are a critical element to the piston, to stop the rings from rotating in the groove.
Normally you file the ring as its the sacrificial element of the set up.
Mind you I could be wrong
