I bought a new .060 piston set from JP and wondering if it is still worth replacing ring set as was common in the past. I had found posts from 2004 stating the JP ring sets were garbage but it's 18 years later so not sure if all still holds true...Any advice would be appreciated.. Thanks and have a ...

Have a new JP piston and ring set for a 500 single and was wondering what material it is? No info on box or directions...
Gray cast iron, ductile iron, ??
Want to know for honing finish...

Hi, Thanks for reply....
Slinger looks interesting but i imagine oil still finds its way to rear of case by chain and chain wheel...i will look and ponder (and possibly nap a bit) and see if I can come up with some type of sliding seal set up...

Hi, As I indicated in post both the footpeg and countershaft bores since there are no seals due to the sliding gearbox...i have taken measures on BSA and Triumphs but this is first time assembling an Ariel...on first look I would say I can seal both with custom felt seal along with a deflector on in...

Primary sealing on singles

Hi All,
What is commonly used as a seal on the ariel singles inner primary ?
Will felt be adequate for peg and counter shaft Or is something more complex required like a labyrinth or scroll set up...
