VH 1954/7 For Sale – unusual motor

IMG_6929.jpeg Re-registered somewhere along the line as a ‘57, but to all intent and purpose has all the distinguishing features, I believe, of a ‘54 model. Came to me as a basic runner – a lot has been done to bring it up to spec. Some low-key cosmetic work to give appearances a bit of a lift with...

Re: Yesterdays classic motorbike dealer visit

Good to see your non-Ariel again, Vincent. Have you modified the kickstart lever? Looks a bit ‘non-standard’ to my eye… but in a good way!

Re: Best tyres /help?

As the OP has a ‘54 VH (ditto) here is a photo of mine wearing Heidenau K34s. They are modern rubber with a classic tread pattern – hopefully the best of both worlds. I only have about 200 miles on them so far, so can say nothing about wear, but they seem to grip well in both the dry and the wet. Th...

Altette Advice Needed

The Altette horn on my ‘54 VH rather surprisingly works quite well, given its condition. It gives out quite a throaty honk, but in this day and age, one tends to feel that its unlikely to disturb the insular equilibrium of SUV drivers passing at 85mph+. Anyway, apart from distinctly shabby or absent...

Re: Sad End to an Ariel & a Fun Photo

I can see a possible way forward here. Perhaps we should have a thread on the forum entitled ‘Confessional’ which such unshriven miscreants can visit to unburden themselves. A nominated club member, possibly on some kind of rota system, would dispense ‘penances’ for the guilty to carry out and purge...

Re: Correct way to fit wiring loom?

I have recently been attending to the wiring on my ‘54 VH, definitely the wrong bike, and while I believe it should have tabs to the underside of the rear mudguard, only one remains. I bought some of these from the auto electrical retailer I’ve been buying wiring Bs&Bs from: IMG_6818.jpeg Not en...

Re: Greas gun for small grease nipples

A quick search on eBay will turn up quite a few of these under different brand names but all essentially the same. If you can find one with the longer nozzle, it’s useful to get into those hard to reach spots. I intitially bought mine to reach in through the spokes and grease bicycle hubs, but the n...

Re: For sale on ebay 1936 250cc

Seller also has a ‘38 250 motor, eBay item 314488475890 and a set of presumably contemporary girder forks, item 314488296229 selling separately (and finishing earlier) but would ideally like them to stay with the bike…

Re: Ariel SB/1932 and SF 1931 my new project

Looking great. Some beautiful lines emerging, for example the horizontal across the rack and saddle. Use of the spirit level looks like overkill, but can see what you are doing. Really good to follow along as you do this — skills, knowledge and equipment us mere mortals can only aspire to ;)
