Re: frame and engine number id

Thank you Roger!

Just to confirm the correct frame number for the 500 is XF7680 even though the 0 is smaller than the other digits. (i.e., Not XF768 - inspectors question this sort of thing...)
Hope to run these numbers by the authorities tomorrow.

frame and engine number id

Hello, I've been offered a couple of Ariel projects that aren't titled. I can get the police to check that they have clean records tomorrow during business hours, but I was wondering if there was any history with the club or factory history. 1937 350 engine BC1382, frame XF9471. If I recall the sell...

Re: Balancing individual steel flywheels

(219 + 201)/649 = 0.647 balance factor. The small end weight goes in the denominator as well, which means your balance factor is 0.494. It's in there. Reciprocating mass = 448g (piston, pin, rings & clips) + 201g small end = 649g. So (219 + 201)/(448 + 201) = 420/649 = 0.647 Oh, you gave me a s...

Re: Pushrod Material

Here it is from Aircraft Spruce in the USA. Shipping might be too expensive though.

Before I knew it was supposed to be 0.028" I bought 0.050" for the iron VH. Wondering if I should switch to the thinner tube?

Re: Balancing individual steel flywheels

The timing side flywheel was pressed on the pin with a vice and the wheels aligned with a straight edge before the nut was tightened with an impact wrench. The oil passage was confirmed by squirting oil into the timing side mainshaft and making a mess. The assembly was then placed on the truing stan...

Re: Balancing individual steel flywheels

OK - time to put this thread to bed... So my purpose in starting this work was to see if I could save the crank of my '46 VH project. It was a lot of work but seems worth it. Mainshafts were both chucked in collets in the lathe and showed minimal runout. Nuts torqued to 125+ lbs/ft. New wrist pin bu...

Re: Balancing individual steel flywheels

Thank you Vincent. Peter's classic bike parts is a good resource I didn't know about.

Feked had the 1/4" rollers and some other bits I could use so that is where I ordered them.

Re: NH350 upgrades

Wow, that's cool. You have some big tools and know how to use them. By ceramic bore, do you mean nikasil? Is it a sleeve or a coating? Look forward to seeing more.
