Re: 1928 Tank Template

The only reference I know of comes from the 1928 parts list. The white area is a reflection ! Do it as you fancy, or have available, in terms of colours then swear blind it is as per original. When someone convinces you that you are wrong, they may have the answer.

Re: Solex carburettor

I have never had a single taper volute spring like Pete Silson's as both mine have been from Drags and symmetrical. I don't recollect ever having a problem with them beyond a tendency for the butterfly to remain very slightly more open than I would have wished. Curing this is a matter of getting the...

Re: Solex carburettor

The same arrangement is used on the cast iron 4G. For both of my 4Gs, I have used the volute spring and found it satisfactory. I understand the preference for the coil tension spring but wonder whether it isn't a greater hazard if or when the spring breaks. The coil tension spring on Madam's 1927 St...

I have one available. Give me a ring Sunday evening or some time Monday on the phone number inside front cover of Cheval.

Re: Ariell NH350 Chaincase problem

The chainwheel is definitely on the wrong way round. It should be as per Mick D's posting. I would suggest trying building in the frame. It is not uncommon for the chaincase to move somewhat when you tighten up the nut on the clutch end of the long gearbox pivot bolt - the chaincases are surprisingl...

Re: Mystery Front Wheel Hub

I am with Dave on this. It looks very like the hub which came with my Red Hunter and is now probably on the front of Geoff Brown's 1928 Model C. I did a straight swop with the late John Bryant around 1988.

Re: ARIEL VG500 Drawing

Living where you do, I would strongly recommend trying to attend the Austrian Rally at the end of July. Details are in Cheval de Fer. There will be a large number of very enthusiastic and experienced Ariel owners there and a good selection of Ariels for you to compare with your own.

Re: KH 500 Petrol in the inlet rubber

My 1954 KH has a monobloc carb and the air filter. It would amaze me if my air filter rubber was a decent seal onto the carb. Turn on the petrol, shut the air slide and give the carb a very brief tickle and she will fire up and run reliably, usually first kick. I think your only problem has been hol...

Re: ARIEL VG500 Drawing

Hello Bert, Knowing where you are, and what you mean by OEL would help us to help you. For instance, if by OEL you mean oil, then the oil pressure gauge as fitted to your bike is something I can usually repair, but it isn't normally worthwhile to send it from (say) India to here in the UK for that p...

Re: Ariel Factory Despatch records

My analysis for the 1933 model year suggests that zero Square Fours went to the USA that year, although 22 went to Canada, representing 5% of Square Four production that year.

Like Roger, I do not anticipate more research during the summer months.
