Re: VH500 piston wanted

Did nobody tell them the gudgeon pin wont fit the small end bush? Or is that just a careless lack of quality cotrol in the revised production? Yes, I could get the small end bus enlarged, but its not easy without detatching the rod, that's why, even if it is improved in other ways, I count it as &qu...

Re: VH500 piston wanted

S/H piston from Pete Collings now fitted, Hamlins agreed that the "slight scores" were nothing to worry about and that its a 6 thou clearance in the +30 rebore originallydone for the JP piston. They very kindly checked and gapped the set of Welworthy Matchless std. size piston rings and ag...

Re: VH500 piston wanted

I got a piston from Thornton's Its a JP which it wasn't named as that on their website. Having trawled through the extensive threads on the subject I understand the excess weight and balance problems and the advice to have 6 thou instead of JP's recomended 4 thou clearance. These I can live with, es...

Re: magneto rotor removal

Thanks.
I found what I needed this morning.
Copy of the relevant Lucas manual.
It just pulls off, they said. Its been on there a few years and did not feel llike that. But armed with the knowledge and a bit of heat and good pull, and off it came.

Re: magneto rotor removal

I googled for this last night. None of the ones I saw dealt with this triffling detali ! They all focused on "how to change the condenser" or "how to fix the bearings" no mention of "how to get in there". All I want to do is change the end housing of the mag to change i...

magneto rotor removal

Its been quite a few years since I messed with a magneto and I simply cannot remember how the rotor which carries the contact breaker on an Mo1 magneto detaches. I have removed the points and both hex head screws, but rotor does not release and I am shy of using any effort on it not knowing how it l...

VH500 piston wanted

To suit my iron 1952 VH500. Bore is +20 at present and a +30 rebore might be enough but would be happy with a +40. Would be happy with anything that will fit as Single Spares have no stock and apparently will not "until middle of next year" And Drags also have none. So any usable s/h pisto...
