With outer cover on is just the same new bushes fitted all good there, just little concerned is backlash to great,meshing of teeth seem a bit shallow.Has anyone else had same thing on new pinions fitted, being repro pinions from club spares ,member had while back.No ploblem at this stage to do what ...

Hi I was fortunate that a club member contacted me having a new pair of pinions from club spares a while back surplus to requirements, fitted ok, a lot quieter than before,there is some backlash in pinions though? Hope all ok now.

Thanks for the removal methods Roger, seen on the forum removal one method engineers hammer and vice,thought a bit crude that one without damage, tube over cam looks the best way. Barrie

Thanks for the interesting replies,looking at it more the smaller crank pinion has double the work to do twice the speed and wear.Can now see why that suffers more looking at the pictures. Will soon try and get new pinions smaller one first,hopefully cam pinion too would be ideal. Running new on new...

Hi, Assembled crankcase,put cam in and timing cover on without followers turned engine over by hand on bench.Timing gears sound noisy or rough,do show some signs of wear, never had engine running before so don't know if this is okay, but new cam pinion and half timing I could get ,could be sourced m...

Hi Nev,Thank's for the info,yes will use ball bearing type as standard on 350,on outer timing bearing have a double shielded type will pop one seal out as to stop engine oil going into primary case if wet sumped.Just read about the unlipped roller type outer race can move out of its housing towards ...

Thanks both for your replys, all looks ok just machine tool marks in case housings, no aluminium pickup on bearing outer races.So will put new bearings back in normal way without retainer.

Just a thought on crankcase bearing instalation 350 single, would it be a safe measure to add locking fluid to bearings before installation, although the housings seem ok.Would the heat on crankcase to fit bearings destroy retainer fluid or set to quick.

Looking at the parts book 1948 piston listed is part no 1664-39 wn/g 3comp ring type,can't see at listing for 1949.The concern I have is the oil pump has the later 1/4 feed plunger, which is correct for the year.Will it be a problem to fit 3 comp ring w/ng type I have,regarding more oil flow.Don't h...
