Re: 1930 LF

After last Saturdays experiences I decided to give the fuel system a little more attention. Namely, drain out all the fuel - it was a bit on the "brown" side . Removed the carburettor float chamber, took out the float itself and lapped the float needle onto it's seat with some fine grindin...

Re: 1930 LF

Would not run, no spark, found that the points had closed up. Adjust the points find that the timing had slipped a little. Re-time the ignition, find muck in the fuel, clean out the lines. Took it to Cassington and someone else got it going, seems I wasn't kicking it hard enough (I am waiting on a r...

Re: 1930 LF

In order get the taper correct I looked on line for 1:10 taper reamer, found one, ordered it. It proved to be not very expensive, only there proved to be a reason for that, despite being marked 1:10, it wasn't. More searching found another, rather more expensive but that least it was the correct tap...

Re: 1930 LF

Reducing the boss and thinning the teeth (they were a little too wide as supplied) was simple enough, however cutting the taper to suit the dynamo shaft took a little more trouble. Cutting an internal taper in it’s self is easy enough by settling over the lathe’s top slide, but getting it wrong is j...

Re: 1930 LF

The 14 tooth sprocket has arrived, before it can be fitted it will need a fair bit of machining. That is the teeth "thinned" to suit the drive chain. the boss reduced in size and length and finally taper board to suit the dynamo input shaft. IMG_20240507_145134772.jpg However trying to hol...

Re: 1930 LF

The "Smart Diode" has arrived, it's not very large, could possibly be fitted inside the dynamo end cover. However I have placed inside the headlight shell fixed to the original "cut-out" bracket. IMG_20240503_174626621.jpg Still not much in the way of voltage coming out of the dy...

Re: 1930 LF

I have removed the third brush and wired the dynamo field coil directly across the it's output, it is now operating as a simple unregulated generator. As to the cut-out I have ordered a "smart diode" which will prevent any "back current" flowing into the dynamo. This device is sa...
