Re: late 4 stroke instrument panel screws

Thanks for the helpful answers - the diagram and numbering is rather confusing but I'm sure they are part 053. Acme definitely don't list them but I will give them a call as I also need a couple of gearbox screws which they only list in sets. Hopefully Acme will co-operate as I have had good parts f...

late 4 stroke instrument panel screws

Regarding my 1958 NH, I am missing the two screws at the top and front of the instrument panel next to the switch and ammeter - part number 053. Drags and Acme don't have any and they are not on the club spares list. I've tried all sorts of bolts just to try and find out what the thread is but nothi...

Re: CASE SCREWS

I just poke a thin screwdriver in each hole and see how deep it is - main thing is that the screws don't bottom out. Doubles as a check for gunge in the bottom of the hole so I always do this even if I know which screw goes where.

Re: It's a new one but it rides like an old one

I had a series of airhead BMWs in the 70s and 80s and they were fine as basic transport but even blander than a modern Bonneville. They did a good job for me back in the day but are too bulky, heavy, and pig ugly for my current needs. Just my opinion of course...

Re: Ariel 500 1936 Auction

Sold for £6400 + 5% buyers premium. As well as Will's and Adrie's points: clutch stop on gearbox looks bodged, dynamo and battery missing, front brake cable not adjusted at all so not a rider, post war rear number plate, wiring clearly utterly shot, also the rear mudguard stays are drilled - possibl...

Re: It's a new one but it rides like an old one

I'm on the same journey as John (including having a T140 that's just a bit too much bother - I have pre-war bikes for that!) and top of my list at the moment is the RE Interceptor - has anyone ridden one? I had a modern Bonneville on extended loan about 12 years ago and found it utterly bland so not...

Re: Lodge plug

I find that original old stock Lodge plugs are far more reliable and long lasting than modern NGK and Champions in my vintage and veteran bikes. There are still plenty about on Ebay and at autojumbles. My experience is that modern plugs often spark well when tested outside the engine but when fitted...

Re: Running without lights

I had a DMW which had a brake light activated by a mercury switch. As you slow down the mercury flows forward and closes the contacts so the brake pedal isn't involved at all. Worked really well and would fit inside the hollowed regulator next to the battery. Available for around £15 or less on Ebay.

Am I missing out on the members's area?

On a thread in the Parts section of the forum there is mention of a members only area and that members' names appear in red. I have been a member for months and I can access the Library etc. in the members' area of the web site but my name does not appear in red when I'm on the Forum and I can't see...
