Re: Historical records from the factory

Mark: The AOMCC does have records of Ariels built (as do the VMCC and Drags) - these are the records from the factory Dispatch Books. (There are various references to these on the Forum.) Frame and engine numbers can be verified, but as I understand it not specific gearboxes. These records also show...

Re: SQ4 in PRF

Del Boy built a Square 4? Wowza!! :D According to the website, frame number GM 1261 (s/arm frame restamped) engine NML 1243. Interesting ethics of re-stamping a frame with the number of another frame, which you keep as evidence of...originality? (In 1982 - when I got new docs for my '56 - you could ...

Re: Oil Seal

Norm - I'm not sure where you're getting the description from but the GB box sprocket oil seal 3635-52 seems to be available/in stock at Drags

Huntmaster rocker box cap alternatives?

The 650 has thrown away the rocker box inspection cap (the one in the middle, over the push rods). Drags don't have any (back order). I know there are a couple of alternatives, one of which is the BA gearbox filler cap (same thread as the GB filler cap but not vented). Another must be a rocker box c...

Re: Part 2, the never-to-be-taken-apart-again VH engine

First 30k or so the bike was the 'daily driver' (both the rigid and later the swing-arm), did quite a lot of motorway work (70mph+) and for at least one year was running with an HS Mk 1 cam and one of Bob Metson's 8:1 pistons - that cracked a gudgeon pin web unfortunately, the bike quite liked it ot...

Part 2, the never-to-be-taken-apart-again VH engine

Some will say this is just general wear and tear and not a particularly Bad Thing at all, but when I re-assembled the VH bottom end with nice new (expensive and difficult to find even then!) RHP main bearings (following Bad Thing 1) I expected it to be good for many thousands of miles before it woul...

Part 1, the no-expense-spared FH engine..

This dates back to 2017 but the true problem only came to light when the 650 engine was being rebuilt after the more recent Bad Thing that happened to the never-to-taken-apart-again VH engine (Part 2) At the time (2017) I'd invested a lot of time and money building a 650 engine with all the 'best pr...

Re: Vch replica

Lee - nice one!
Bit of a bu**er about the carb. I've been buying the premium Concentrics (from Amal) just because the pilot arrangement is much improved
