Re: Supposedly 1937 Red Hunter
The vendor just sent the engine and frame numbers:
Frame No. XF9562
Engine No. CD2876
So a '37 frame and '38 engine. That definitely rules it out, thanks again for all of the input.

Re: Supposedly 1937 Red Hunter
Thanks for all the helpful replies. It does come with the correct carb and also with a pair of correct type new silencers - although it would obviously need a pair of header pipes. It also comes with a new seat and apparently it runs well. How can one tell it's an Indian tank? The vendor said it had...

Supposedly 1937 Red Hunter
Hello all. I've been offered the attached machine which I believe the vendor claims is a '37 500 Red Hunter. I can see that the front end is obviously wrong - forks from an WNG? Goodness knows where that mudguard came from. The engine, greabox and primary chaincase looks right to me, but I simply do...

Re: Wanted: Pre-war Red Hunter
I can recognise some of the more obvious changes in details to the tinware, handlebar controls etc, but what about engines and gearboxes? I know post '38 machine have a visually different cylinder head, but that's about all I know. What, for instance, gives away that this machine - see attached - as...

Re: Wanted: Pre-war Red Hunter
Unfortunately, I'm not that brave to ride that far on an unknown machine! You'll only need a Swiss knife to ride this Ariel home :D . I've had motorcycles since I was 17 - my only form of transport back then. I must have had 30 motorcycles over 37 years but I don't think that I've ever done a trip ...
