Re: Square Four Hydraulic lock

Thank you David for the response and in particular the advice about the kick start . It will not kick over every time and as you point out this problem is caused by ratchet and pinion. I do not agree with your flooded cylinder description though. The engine was locked . Removed the sump plate which ...

Re: Double 6V battery

Good idea Simon, wish I had thought of it. In the end I opted for a 6V cyclone battery with 8 amp capacity.

Square Four gearbox glupe

I'm on one today so after tea and biscuits I wondered if anybody else has this problem. No oil in primary chain case because I use chain lube. No oil in gearbox because I use grease instead. After a ride the bike was placed on its side stand. Directly beneath the gearbox drive chain sprocket but on ...

Square Four Hydraulic lock

My Square Four was impossible to kick over. Got 22 stone Danny to swing on it which bent the kick start. Lacking product knowledge but with no one to ask I removed the outer timing chest cover. In front of me was a copper tube with 90 degree elbow slotted into the banjo breather and pointing downwar...

Double 6V battery

Modern batteries are small. The square four battery box is large. Does anybody have experience about fitting two 6V batteries. Can't remember here and now if they should be in series or parallel but I'll mug up on that. Whilst I'm on here can somebody inform me of the charge rate from the Lucas box ...

Re: 54 SQUARE 4 WONT SWITCH OFF

Thank you for all responses and Mr Moore in particular. His description of how circuits work and inter connect is accurate and easy to understand provided one understands potential difference, voltage drop and so on . DC generators play no part in the ignition system other than acting as a temporary...

54 SQUARE 4 WONT SWITCH OFF

Done everything to this bike including engine rebuild and straightening the frame in my jig. Replaced several electrical components with standard like for like. Recon dyno as well. Made a new wiring harness. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought an ignition switch would stop current going to the distributor...

Wiring diagram

New member needs advice about electrical resistance. In front of me is a wiring diagram for 1956-59 Square Four.It clearly shows a resistance symbol within the ammeter. Wire going to and from the ammeter to pole position six and seven of the head lamp switch. The fitted ammeter has no facility for t...
