Re: Identify a ariel

My guess is this is a WNG frame which has had some different bits used on it over the years. XG is WNG or 1939 NH. No idea why the engine has no prefix number. if WNG is should be BH, see if you can find a witness for it. Also look for signs that the war dept side stand lug , left and side just unde...

Red paint colour for fifties Ariel.

Hi . A question for all you knowledgeable Ariel people. Some years ago I repainted my 1959 VH. It was a red one.Someone told me that the paint to use was a Ford colour. I painted it, used up all the paint and threw the tin away. I now need to repaint some of it, but cannot remember A. who told me th...

Half round steel tube.

Calling all AOMCC forum members. The Black Ariel spares scheme needs some help. We need to find a supplier of half round, flat sided or elliptical at a push, thin walled steel tube for the continued production of rear stands. Our previous supplier has sadly died recently, he made it in small batches...

1950Sq four

The son of a friend of mine has one of these and wishes to get rid of it. Although not a Sq4 expert I have seen it and it looks like a good project to me. All major parts are there and in a partly restored condition . with the bike partly put together. the engine turns over and it comes with a spare...

Just checked some of my old photos. This is a 6-7hp model as the fins on the head run for and aft, The tank with the light coloured panel is 1921 , and the non druid forks came in 22/23/24, with the rounded sided tanks 23/24. You could get chain cum belt drive up to the end of the AKD and WandP mode...

Bronze cylinder heads.

A friend of mine is thinking of buying a 1932 four valve 500 VH or VG. The odd thing about it is it has a bronze head. I have never seen another four valve bronze head. I know these models had a habit of the cast iron heads cracking and i know there are two valve bronze heads out there some supposed...

It is either a 5-6 hp or a 6-7 AKD engined model from between 1917 and 1921/22. It also looks to have a genuine Ariel sidecar. The fins on the cylinder heads run at 90 degrees depending on which model it is. However I cant remember which is which but I think 5-6hp run for and aft.If the tank panel i...

What an interesting head. My guess is that it is for sprinting and that the extra drilling is for injecting some more exotic fuel element such as nitromethane or if it is a gas fitting even oxygen. Your valves are definitely bigger. Probably best not to try to repeat the experiment as it could be li...

Re: White & Poppe engine breathing

I have a 1923, and had a 1924, they both had breathers from the top of the crankcase above the drive side main bearing and then via a small tube onto the top of the drive sprocket. Also have a small tube coming out of the timing chest. Oil also breathes through the drive side mainbearing and the val...
