Re: Stafford M/C Show

Thanks, Tony. Can't wait to get out on it. A 1929 road tests reckons its 20hp (same as a new Enfield 350 - thats progress for you) and should be good for over 80mph! Itll be treated far more gently now.

Re: Any clue?

Phelon and Moore's engines were stamped with the identification mark of the builder - my Panther 650 mill was built by Jack Wilkinson. Totally unrelated to this thread but how many folk have a picture of the chap that put their engine together? Jack is second from left - a reassuringly experienced l...

Re: Gearlever on a VB600

If its ali then its only a question of reshaping and polishing the section to match - my tig wont do ali welding but Im fortunate in having a fabrication place nearby and its the sort of thing hed do for the price of a beer or two. He did an excellent job on an A...

That sounds very much like my experience with Ariel singles :) Glad you've found the knack. Of course, the next bike will be completely different :D

Re: Thorspark Electronic Ignition advice.

Got em on a 1949 Matchless 500 and a 61 Panther M120 - they work fine. Accurate setting per the instructions can be a faff needing a timing disc/strobe set-up but to be honest I simply relied on the felt tip mark on the pick up they came with. It seems close enough and can always be tweaked on the a...
