Re: KH 500 Camshaft shims

Roger, Thanks for the advice and reference in the owners guide.
The engine is back together and seems to be running OK.

KH 500 Camshaft shims

Could any one please advise where the camshaft shims should be fitted? I have just rebuilt the engine and shimmed the camshafts within the crankcases on the timing side. Both camshafts required a 5 thou and a 15 thou shim inserted between the thrust face of the camshaft and the inside face of the ca...

KH 500 drive side crank shaft oil seal

I am rebuilding a 1951 KH 500 engine and I am puzzled as to how the drive side crank shaft oil seal is normally retained in position. The outer diameter of the oil seal does not appear to fit into any sort of housing in the crank case. Where the oil seal back face has been rotating against the crank...

KH500 oil pressure relief valve removal

Please could anyone advise whether the hexagon headed oil pressure relief valve body on the end of the crankshaft is a right hand thread. I have placed a socket on the nut and exerted an anticlockwise force whilst sitting on the engaged kick start which does not loosen the nut. How can I lock the cr...

Re: Oil pressure on a KH500

Alan, Simon & Paul, Thanks for your constructive replies. I did change from SAE 40 to SAE 30 oil, as the handbook suggests for winter running. This has not made much difference to the oil pressure in previous years. I rode the bike again today and the oil pressure stayed high, 60 to 70 PSI, for ...

Oil pressure on a KH500

I had my KH500 off the road since the summer whilst sorting out gearbox problems. In the meantime I removed the oil tank and flushed it out as well as removing the feed and return steel oil pipes, for flushing, to the oil pump. I drained the sump of oil as well. Two days ago I filled the oil tank wi...

Re: Loose gearbox main shaft nut

Roger,

Thanks for the advice. I have taken your advice and also wire locked the clutch spring nuts together, for good measure.

Loose gearbox main shaft nut

Whilst riding my Arrow this morning the free play on the clutch lever increased from approx 1/16" to 1/4" within a mile or so. Removing the primary chain case cover revealed that there was significant clutch assembly axial movement. Removing the kick starter case cover revealed that the nu...

Re: Arrow 6v charging system

John, Please see attached a photo of the back my spare ignition switch showing the brass tracks connecting pins 14 to 15 and 16 to 17. This is shown on the attached wiring diagram as dotted lines between the switch pins. If you wish to send your contact details, email, phone number or address, to me...

Re: Arrow 6v charging system

John, Perhaps I can help you out as I am in Newchurch which is 12 miles South of Ashford. I seem to remember that the two different wiring diagrams show the hard links (brass tracks) between some of the pins on the back of the ignition switch. These hard links are different between the two types of ...
