According to the Draganfly web site the shaft I need measures as follows -

The length of the large plain section on the mainshaft should be - (1956-58 Singles and twins mainshaft 3630-56) 3 1/64” (76.6 mm)

I am looking for one of the late GB gearbox mainshafts for a swinging arm single with ferc. My current gearbox is from a pre 56 bike and so the clutch and engine sprocket are out of line and I have had to be very creative with the chaincase alignment to prevent rubbing by the clutch. Seems to work, ...

Coming back to my original question, with the gearbox internals and the left hand engine plate removed, the gearbox shell is easy to take out from the LHS of the bike.

Thanks to you all for your help, have now stripped gearbox in situ and struggling to find anything wrong with the final drive bearing, ho hum. Part of me says 'change it anyway, then you will know for sure' while another part is saying 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' ! Away for a beer and a ponder...
