Re: KH Carburation Saga
Simon, definitely a four stroke carb, The jetting is standard, but clearly with the burgess filter running rich at higher revs as it seems unable to flow enough air and must be strangling the carb.

KH Carburation Saga
My original Carb, a 15/16 379 monobloc bored out to 1" would never pull full throttle despite jetting the main jet down and down, but idled very well and was good up to 1/2 throttle. So fitted a second hand 1" item which unfortunately idled badly due to a loose fitting slide, but was good ...

Re: KH 500 Petrol in the inlet rubber
Well it runs OK with the hose off but undoubtedly a bit weaker, so a couple of mm hole is not likely to make much difference, but wll let any pooled petrol out so doesn't get sucked straight into the engine as soon as it fires. Clearly I need to sort any potential leaks out first and tickle the carb...

KH 500 Petrol in the inlet rubber
On attempting to start the bike after fitting a rebuilt monobloc carb (everything to spec) after the winter storage, it fired easily enough but would not pick up and flooded the plugs several times. Eventually pulled the inlet rubber off to check if the slide was sticking and a fair amount of petrol...

Re: Changing oil with an anti-draindown valve fitted
It looks like a Bri Tie valve, same as I have fitted on my KH. I would not bother draining the oil pipes or a major priming exercise is needed as Paul describes, Check the unions for tightness regularly and they work perfectly. I had the return side union fail on mine due to a cracking pipe, fortuna...

Re: Mystery cause of sticking inlet valves on Mk II engine.
Paul It might be an oil carburisation / burning problem if you are not using the oil cooler. Experience with racing Honda Cb77's in the IOM, notoriously hot running engines, was that even R40 castor oil was turned to lacquer and vinegar in 6 laps with high consumption without an oil cooler. Another ...

Rob
Very sorry to hear this, the whole area is a disaster as far as access is concerned, Hopefully the job will be stronger than original when welded up and at least the engine should go back together with no problem

On my KH 500 it did that for a while and then became dramatically worse, the pipe was cracked around the soldered on olive
