Can you weatherproof the rusty bits so that they don't deteriorate further?

Thanks for all your comments chaps. At present I have one of the crankcase halves in a 95C oven. It's been there for an hour or so and I've given the bearings a bit of a tap with not much effect.

Thanks John and Paul. Presumably the reverse of what you advised would be appropriate to fit new ones. Yes, I think getting my own baking tray would be a safe idea. Trev

Thanks David. Do you apply the heat locally or put the whole thing in an oven and heat to a certain temp?

Also, what temp does one heat the crankcase to before attempting to tap the main bearings out?
