Lucas DK distributor - correct components?
Hi All The Lucas DK distributor in my 1950 MK1 may have incorrect cam/advance system components. The main issue is that rotor sits too high, and to the point where it actually has "machined" its way into the horizontal face of the brass electrodes. I have a new old stock rotor, and when co...

In-Line oil filter
Hi All I just installed an inline oil filter unit on my Mk1......I have noticed the engine will start making smoke at lower revs, so I assume the filter may provide a little more flow resistance to the Morgo scavenger pump, seemingly more so at low revs. Is this a common problem, or perhaps an indic...

Re: "dry" 6V 6N6-3B batteries
Hi Simon I think I may have a poor man's version of what you show. I'm not sure the product you have is made in the smaller scale size battery I have. Going by pics, your MK1 year came out with a larger battery size, for which VRLA types are available? The one I am using is a Tayna Powerline, which ...

"dry" 6V 6N6-3B batteries
Hi All I was wondering if others have had similar experiences with the dry type batteries on the market (designed to avoid sending acid by mail). I find that even when fully charged on the charger, I do not get the same performance as the old acid-filled units. I suspect in any case the battery does...

Re: Solex AHD Leaning Out?
Thanks Paul That was bang on the problem. That silly piece of gasket has been creating grief from day one......I imagine after travelling at speed for a while the gasket paper was getting drawn into the port by the vacuum in the carb throat, hence; the issue being at its worst when coming down from ...

Re: Solex AHD Leaning Out?
Thanks Paul
That might just be it! The other thing I found a bit curious is how the pilot stem fits into a socket on the main carb body.....has there ever been an issue where air sucks in around the socket fit, therefore reducing the draw on he pilot jet?

Re: Solex AHD Leaning Out?
Thanks for the diagrams, Simon I have the carb apart, and pretty sure I can see how things are configured. And yep, my ramblings about some kind of direct relationship between the bi-starter and low speed jet was tommyrot....they are completely separate entities and even have different draws from th...

Re: Solex AHD Leaning Out?
All I think I may be onto something with regards to leaning out when hot. I'm back on the road, but still leaing out badly at lower revs. This issue has got worse, if anything, This time riching up the idle jet makes little difference, if at all, even when the engine is relatively cold......if I run...

Re: solex banjo bolt thread
Hi Mark I have similar issues as the threads were largely stripped. The last owner had had to make an undersize and overlength stud, but it still only caught 2 or so new threads at the base of the socket. It was a pretty dangerous setup as it would vibrate loose and piddle petrol. I looked at insert...

Re: MK1 - Possible Rear Crank Gear Play
Hi Allan Yes......the knocking is gone, and I seem to have got a fuel issue sorted too. I'm pretty happy with it, a few noises from the primary side...perhaps that's the nature of the beast. Remenber, you'll need to trim the edges of the key back to fit within the gear. I'd still love to get the gea...
