Replacement MK1 oil feed union to head

Hi All Probably a common issue, but the olive fitting that connects the oil line to the MK1 head adapter fitting is persistently leaking and no manner of tightening seems to help. The fitting is part of the Drags line, but can a replacement fitting be sourced and resoldered to the copper line? Or po...

Re: MK1 - Possible Rear Crank Gear Play

Hi All I have done a first pass of the gear centre nickeling, and fitted to the shaft as test (without key). I have to say the results are really pleasing and I feel I'm on the way to a successful outcome. The gear was markedly more snug than before and required a moderate amount of force to fit. A ...

Re: MK1 - Possible Rear Crank Gear Play

Its rather obvious that the key transmits drive...to have a cylindrical surface transmit drive ,the interference fit would be in the order of 10-15 tons push on/off......The simplest way to fix the fit would be with a thin deposit of electroless nickle in the gear bore ....which you can do yourself...

Re: MK1 rear crank gear knock - again

Hi My focus is on rectifying the problem. Patch-ups are not a good approach because of the potential damage (if it happens a long way from home, you're stuck). I'll get the gear off and measure things up.......maybe a replacement gear that's less worn, or maybe repair the existing gear with metalspr...

Re: MK1 rear crank gear knock - again

Hi Simon
I'm sure that imbalance would not help, but my issue is somewhat worse the teeth themselves knocking....when the gear/shaft slips it's a horrible nasty noise.....one suggesting imminent damage :(

Re: MK1 rear crank gear knock - again

Thanks Nev I'll need to dive in and measure things up. I imagine the term "pairing" of the gears would tend to mean that the two gears have worn together at the same rate? I would have thought wear on the gears would be minimal in any case. Does anyone have the spec measurements for interf...

MK1 rear crank gear knock - again

Hi All I just completed a successful BA gearbox overhaul (thanks to great support from Geoff Brown), working beautifully. After a lovely ride to Bowl of Brooklands and back, the rear crank gear released and started knocking again (I know the sound by now!). Once I lift myself out of the depression I...
