Re: Sad dynamo
Thanks Simon. As it happens, I already had a copy of that but I had forgotten where I'd put it. I need a better filing system.
The dynamo was OK in the end. I scratched out the gunge in the commutator, cleaned it with fine emery paper and fitted new brushes and it sprang into life.

Re: Sad dynamo
Does anybody know what the resistance down to earth should be for the field coil and the armature for the E3L?
I have 1.5 Ohms for the armature and 3.0 Ohms for the field winding.

Re: Sad dynamo
Flashing it, aka the Jimmy Savile treatment Yes but more discrete and less malicious. In any case, flashing the field winding only revealed that it was already polarized correctly. It flashed blue at the first touch. This morning, I connected the F & D terminals together and measured the voltag...

Sad dynamo
I have in my possession a nice pre-war VH with a dynamo that sort of works but only manages to squeeze out a fraction of a volt at idle and about 1.6 volts when revved. Not enough to stimulate the interest of the voltage regulator. The brushes look OK and seem to be making contact with the commutato...

Re: Rocker box thread
Well, it looks like I may know the answer but I would appreciate some confirmation. I think it is 5/16" BSCY (26tpi). Does that sound right?

Rocker box thread
Does anybody know what the thread is on the rocker-box bolts on an VH? It is 1939, if that makes a difference.

Did he really curtsey? He didn't do that last time I bought something from him.
