Hello Bob
Coventry Boring and Metalling did mine. (A bit closer than Bedford) Seems like a good job although I will really be able to let you know once I get everything back together and running!

Modification to 4g rocker
Hello gents Looking through Waller there is a diagram showing a mod to carry out to the rockers by chamfering the top edge. This helps oil run away from the valve stem area. Mine are currently unmodified. Questions. 1. Is this mod worthwhile doing? 2. File or angle grinder. Cold chisel (only joking)...

4G Crankshaft oil seal washer
Good evening Gents I am currently building up a 4G Engine and have a few questions to ask along the way, the first of which is:- Next to the Crankshaft oil seal the drawing shows an "oil seal washer" (Part No. K147-53) Does anyone know the purpose of this? Looks like my engine did not have...

Square 4 Tappet Guide Blocks
Hi there I am in the process of re-assembling my 4G engine that has been apart for some time. When I took it apart all of the cam followers were moving freely in their respective tappet guide blocks but now for some reason I have four followers seized (fortunately? in just two of the guide blocks) I...

No need to rush!
Evening Gents Having just turned 60 and having had this "project" for more years than I care to think about I decided to move things along a bit. Its my 1955 SQ4 (Mongrel or hybrid depending on your point of view.) Its a 55 frame, etc, etc with a 49 engine and gearbox or at least, its goin...

Re: Small end bush reaming with engine in frame?
Hi Graham
I am afraid to say that I think you will end up taking the engine out as you cannot guarantee that your reaming will be straight and true, no matter how good the reamer is.
I would be interested to see what others think.
Sorry to disappoint,
Alec

Painting Cylinder barrel and head
Hi there I am slowly winding up to restart the lapsed rebuild on my 4G Engine and would like to know if anyone has experience (good or bad) of painting the cylinder barrel, cylinder head and exhaust manifolds. (stove enamel, wood stove paint, etc) I have a BSA Bantam that has had the barrel stove en...
