Re: Winnipeg to Toronto and back...
That would have been a challenging trip in 1939. Probably couldn't have gone north of Lake Superior back then so they probably traveled through the US. Even now it is a long journey - I've done it several times but not by motorbike.

Re: 1937 Ariel VG 500
Very nice. A few more photos from different angles would be appreciated as I have a '37 VH and and like to see comparable bikes as a reference.

I don't mind the higher prices, it shows these pre-war bikes are appreciated even if they aren't perfect. I would say that I suppose since I have one and mine is much more original.

Re: oil cap , what year ?
Hi Volker,
I live in Canada so my idea of really cold weather may differ from yours. I use 40 wt diesel oil year round for my VH and wait until the outside temperature is at least +10 C.

Re: oil cap , what year ?
Not sure if it is correct although the rest of the bike pretty much is - the cap on my '37 VH lists Castrol XXL, Mobiloil 'D', Aeroshell, Motorine 'B' Deluxe with the word OIL in the centre. The word Patent is placed above Castrol XXL. The cap is very slightly domed.

Re: FOR SALE : Pre war single
Thanks Volker. The cylinder head may be later than 1933 as it has a line to supply an oil mist to the intake valve.

Re: FOR SALE : Pre war single
Seems to be gone from the website. Just for my interest how much were they asking for it?

Re: Ariels at Chas Cope
Hi Paul, Mine starts with DOB which I believe is a Birmingham registration. As I have the bike's logbook I can confirm that this was the original plate number. I have no idea how it ended up in Canada complete with this documentation but am glad I have it. If memory serves it was originally sold in ...
