Re: VHA liner installed
Mike Dickson was the guy who made the HS cylinders, primarily for the trials fraternity. Unfortunatly he too passed on and the business went to his son. I believe it has been sold again and have been told that quality has suffered. I have no contact details but would take a chance if some kind perso...

Re: Rear stand
Luckily I didn't have to resort to welding as I had a spare cylinder with a new liner - which justified the purchase in the first place (ha ha). I have wondered if the fitting of a head steady between the short tank tube and the rocker boxes would help the weaker VHA alloy barrel stay in one piece? ...

Re: Vinegar to clean rusted tanks?
I bought a rusty VH tank at a swop meet and was warned it leaked. A good handful of granite chippings with soap and water and into a cement mixer, packed foam around the tank. The whole process took about a day, changing the position of the tank to get all the rust out. I then brazed up all the pin ...

Re: Vinegar to clean rusted tanks?
Not Ariel related, but oxalic acid is ideal for removing black water stains from oak furniture. Just remember to neutralise it once the ring has disappeared - or you will have a white ring instead! It's pretty good for bleaching oak. I get mine from the local pharmacy and large containers of meths a...

Re: Spare engine project...
I've built a crank assembly using a VB crank and rod with an 85mm goldie piston. In order to balance it I had to remove some weight around the big end eye on the flywheels. Not a lot and I did it on a rotary table on my mill. Big difference in the weights of the pistons, I guess.

You certianly seem to live in a remote location. I can think of several advantages - Low risk of covid, hopefully no idiot car drivers and no noisey neighbours for a start!
