Re: KH500 Project
Hi Alan To add to what Adrie has written, the KH and FH inner chain cases are very similar but if you look at the area where the battery carrier is mounted you should see either KH or FH stamped in the casting..the casting is actually the same I think, it is just machined slightly differently...henc...

Re: Improving the front forks
Good fork springs are part of the solution, Ariel steadily increased the strength of the front fork springs over time so my advice is to use the later type, Roger at Drags can give you the low down on this but the springs are not expensive. I think that the wire diameters, numbers of coils plus free...

I bought a set of MkII square four crankcases from him a good couple of years ago and had no problems.

Re: Headlamp shells for '56-'59 models
Hi Dick The 1956-57 cowl headlight was the same shape as the earlier 'bucket', although without the switch panel but with a couple of holes to allow the speedo cable to pass through, there was also a rubber tube with end fittings that was fitted between the two holes to stop cable chaff. This is an ...

Re: Steering damper retaining pin removal
Hi Rod
I don't think that it matters..although it is probably easier to do it from front to back (as in the bike) so that the yoke is easier to mount in vice jaws for the 'banging' part of the exercise, I hope all is well.

Re: Late VH with push-in exhaust pipe.
I have done the same as Dick with the silicon seal on the exhaust pipe, it has generally lasts a couple of years before needing to be done again, which is no problem as you are more than likely going to be taking the exhaust pipe off for other reasons in that timescale.

Re: Mudguard stays
Hi I have made quite a few tubular HS/Cyclone mudguard stays, they have a smaller tube diameter than the standard versions but have end fittings welded on which are of the larger diameter, I get the tubes bent professionsally and then make up the end pieces. For crushing the ends to get the flat bit...

Re: Mk 1 spark plugs
Richard I have just noticed that you are in NZ so assume that you will not be dropping in to sunny Berkshire to collect any MkI spark plugs, but it may help to know that Paul 'Grubby' Wiggans in Aukland (Pukekohe perhaps) is currently restoring a MKI so may be able to help with advice. His email is ...

Re: Mk 1 spark plugs
Richard My wife has a 1949 MkI but although she would not know what sort of spark plugs she uses, fortunately I would or at least should know! Having said that, I am not positive about the number but I think it is Champion L86, they are readily available and in fact I buy them by the box of about a ...
