SQ4 Deluxe??

I put my '56 bike up for sale and two interested parties have both asked why it has chromed fork sleeves. My answer was- 'cos that's what it came with - but I have no knowledge of whether this was standard on U.S. export models, an optional extra or whether there was a 'de-luxe' model. They look ori...

1956 SQ4 for sale

I've finally decided to sell my bike after a few iterations of shall I/shan't I.... I imported it in pieces from the U.S. and rebuilt it myself a few years ago. It was all there except for petrol tank, mudguards and nacelle. I found a genuine nacelle and front mudguard from members, used an Indian t...

Re: Decided to keep my '56 Mk2....

IT STARTS!!!! Fitted the EI kit from Sussex Motorcycles. There was a 'pop' when I turned the ignition on - seems this kit fires on power up - so at least that answered the question of whther there was fuel getting through. A bit of fiddling with the timing and it starts well. I still need to refine ...

Re: Decided to keep my '56 Mk2....

My EI kit from Sussex Motorcycles has just arrived and I'm hoping to fit it within the next day or so. In theory this shouldn't help with the starting problems but we'll see. If it doesn't sort it I'm going to order an appropriately jetted Amal concentric and try that. We will get there one day! Che...

Re: Decided to keep my '56 Mk2....

I will try that - thought about it the other day but didn't have enough arms to hold the throttle open, lift the slide and direct the jet in the right direction! I'll give that a go as it might be a good way to determine if the carburation problem is electrical or the other way round :D

Re: Decided to keep my '56 Mk2....

It's always difficult when you can't isolate a single cause of a problem isn't it. My recently completed B40 SS90 drove me mad as it would start and idle fine but stutter on pickup and cut out at higher revs. I bought a new carb from Burlen, fitted EI, new coil, new plugs, checed timings a zillion t...

Re: Decided to keep my '56 Mk2....

Thanks all, I'm pretty sure the carb is fine. Float level set correctly, new needle and body fitted from the Burlen service kit. Top lifted until overflowing and then kicked over. Slide is free, jet block adjusted so that there's no binding. No hole in cap. However that doesn't fit with dry plugs so...

Re: Decided to keep my '56 Mk2....

Latest update - still not good. Stripped the MC2 and rebuilt using a full service kit from Burlen. Reset the float level Ensured all joints airtight Enptied the tank and refilled with fresh fuel No difference, one small sign of ignition after about 20 kicks. New pertonix coil, healthy spark. Pulled ...

Re: Taper on sidecar fixings?

Thanks - you're both right of course. I'd looked through the front mount expecting to see a taper and a build-up of powder coat let me see what wasn't there! I guess that makes complete sense if you want to be able to mount the chair on either side.... I will seek out grandfather's collection! Cheer...
