I will try that - thought about it the other day but didn't have enough arms to hold the throttle open, lift the slide and direct the jet in the right direction! I'll give that a go as it might be a good way to determine if the carburation problem is electrical or the other way round

Thanks all, I'm pretty sure the carb is fine. Float level set correctly, new needle and body fitted from the Burlen service kit. Top lifted until overflowing and then kicked over. Slide is free, jet block adjusted so that there's no binding. No hole in cap. However that doesn't fit with dry plugs so...

Thanks - you're both right of course. I'd looked through the front mount expecting to see a taper and a build-up of powder coat let me see what wasn't there! I guess that makes complete sense if you want to be able to mount the chair on either side.... I will seek out grandfather's collection! Cheer...
