Re: Hi all!
Hello J and greetings from Japan. I restored a 1948 All Iron 4G and i'm very envious of your Mk I (its a few years later than mine and just like "Amelia") Here are the basic steps :- 1. Go to Simon's Amelia Blog and devour every word. 2. Contact Draganfly (fantastic website) and get Spare ...

Re: 1948 Iron 4G Coil Ignition
Hello and Greetings from Japan. As you might recall my Iron 4G was converted to coil ignition by a previous owner. The magneto was stripped out and a car type contact breaker incorporated. After many trials and tribulations it has been working, BUT it consumes about 18 to 20 watts and this together ...

Re: Draganfly poor service
This Forum is NOT the place for "fletch" to bellyache.
Without this supplier my 39 VB; 48 4G and 52 B31 would not be roadworthy.
Cut some slack in Covid Season.
Regards
Chris

Re: 1948 Iron 4G Coil Ignition
Hello Everyone, This thread started almost exactly a year ago and earlier in 2020 we seemed to be 'nearly there', but needing some test runs. Then we discovered Covid; Semi-lockdown and other such stuff. Periodically I strolled to the workshop and started the bikes, wishing for the end of semi-lockd...

Re: 1948 Iron 4G Coil Ignition
Hello Folks, An update. I had it in mind to change the points, this was hastened when the teeny weeny wire broke. Via this wonderful forum my points were correctly identified with a part number. These points were used on a variety of Mazdas and Mitsubishi Motors. Given that I'm in Japan I thought ge...

Re: 1948 Iron 4G Coil Ignition
Hello Everyone, In the aftermath of the Typhoon I have not had the chance to go for a run. The bike has been standing in the workshop doorway where I can start it and let it run on the stand. I'm hugely encouraged , it starts easily (like it always did) and runs well. Suspicion of running rich, but ...

Re: 1948 Iron 4G Coil Ignition
Hello from Tokyo Let me give an update. First a couple of Open Items - I was doing the timing on the right stroke: The coil is alive and well and I have not electrocuted myself. On Monday afternoon, the Japanese Brains Trust descended on me and they were convinced they would get the 4G running - aft...

Re: 1948 Iron 4G Coil Ignition
Hello Folks, Let me give you an update of Friday & Saturday business. 1. I verified the cb points are at 12 thou. 2. I took the mag sprocket off its taper and re-set the Points Opening & #1 Piston Position. 3. I put the sprocket back on and tightened the nut. 4. I re-checked the timing (it s...

Re: 1948 Iron 4G Coil Ignition
Hello Folks Its Friday Morning and pouring with rain, plus I have a couple of hours escape from Domestic Duties - a good time to go into the workshop for more Ignition Torture. Game plan is Set Points. Retime CB & Piston Retime Distributor. This will be with the original CB Cam, which overloads ...

Re: 4G Grease Dashpot 464261
Hello
I don't have a drawing (or a greaser) but Draganfly Drawing of MN1E magneto 'almost' shows the extended part that engages with the distributor shaft.
Who supplied the greaser ?
Best regards
Chris
