Re: Hartley Ariel in Auction

Interesting in that the register has a record of the engine in this bike being fitted to a 1954 KH PRF frame dated July 1981. Whatever this frame is it isn't a PRF one, the number may be hidden under the paint. Comparing it to photos of the bike that it purports to be in Hartley's book, taken in 195...

Re: Question about Altette horn

Not easy as the copies are really quite good. The originals will have a small triangle of Tufnol attached to the terminals with a month and year of manufacture impressed. There are of course modern copies made with 'Lucas' on them that are officially sanctioned by the trade mark owner and so are gen...

Re: Replica Speedometers

The speedos i use are made by Sigma, some are very flash and will give 0-100 mph times and many other things, a bit over the top on my 1932 side valve!

Re: Rear Wheel axle position adjustment

I wouldn't weld it, rather difficult to drill afterwards, never mind tapping it. It may be the thread on the adjuster, take it apart and find out! original thread is 5/16 x 26 Whitworth but CEI is close enough!

Re: VB headgasket thickness ?

Drags make theirs from 1mm copper, 1.5 will lower your compression ratio by probably .1, so I would mill your copper sheet down a little as you will need every last horse power.

Re: Drags site issues ?

The site is working again, apparently the PHP version was upgraded to 8.1 but there was a problem and it has now been changed back to 7.9. All fixed.

Re: Replica Speedometers

Warning! Some cycle speedos only read up to 100 kph (62.5 mph) so are a bit slow for our high speed machines, also I have been told that wireless ones can have problems with HT interference. There are some nice ones made for motorcycles.

Re: Drags site issues ?

Have you contacted Draganfly, I will anyway as Iain lives across the road from me. He has been struggling with speed of the site for some months, even paying professionals to have a look and for a couple of weeks it ran at normal speed but seems to be back to slow now.

Re: GB gearbox

I can't see why not, although the level plug is rather small so there is likely to be a delay between the fluid reaching that level and it starting to dribble out. I would use EP90 and see little if any advantage to using semi-fluid grease
