Re: GB gearbox
I can't see why not, although the level plug is rather small so there is likely to be a delay between the fluid reaching that level and it starting to dribble out. I would use EP90 and see little if any advantage to using semi-fluid grease

Re: '56 NH350 gearbox crack
it is very possible that someone has changed the shaft, especially if it has been used in a 1956-58 machine and the clutch has not been rubbing on the primary case. Best to measure the mainshaft as Paul suggests, the shafts are interchangeable.

Re: '56 NH350 gearbox crack
A quick check in the parts book would tell you that there should be a bush. It is certainly repairable by welding and machining, a used case would be cheaper and easier.

Re: Ariel square 4 maintenance
With regular oil changes and modern filters your sludge traps should not sludge up, they will of course but will take a long time. I must admit to never having kept a SQ4 on the road for long enough! There are people out there who have...

Re: Ariel square 4 maintenance
On the one hand when using modern oils and filters the oil change interval can be extended and save the planet and you pocket. On the other hand it is a good ides to change the oil at regular intervals, irrespective of the mileage. Annual is usually quoted but if in regular use every month or so I w...

Re: Aluminium heads on singles
We have had heads welded up at Draganfly, Which I think was done after machining a large countersink so that the weld could reach lower down into the hole, not just round the top. We do this when repairing pulled studs on SQ4 heads but have only had to resort to this a couple of times with VH heads,...

Re: 350 bigend torque figure ?
To be honest I don't use a set torque just basically as tight as I can. The limit is reached when the crank flies out of the vice that is holding the crank while you lean on a 2 metre scaffold pole.

Re: 350 bigend torque figure ?
That might be a bit much, the official figure is FT, 60-80 ft lb is sufficient, as long as the taper is good, too tight and you may shatter the wheel
