I insert my finger under the chain and lift up.If it goes close to 3/8 it's good.
I do the rear chain this way as well.
I was taught to take measurement from rest position to full movement Re 3/8 ,up or down whichever is your preference

My VHA made an annoying rattle. it turned out to be the damper knob that was vibrating.

To be honest, I enjoy the VF solo..lol haven't heard back from the gent so maybe the ol gal will still be solo.
I have admit paul.wirdnam old Ariel & sidecar looks nice.

If the sidecar looks like a good match for the 31 , I may try it and if I dislike it.off it comes..lol

My biggest concern is the brakes. They are marginal at best and with a sidecar to haul down worries me a bit.

I ended up using the small washer used on the primary case screw. I just put it over the drive end. Cut down the leak dramatically!
