Re: Smiths Chronometric repair

Good evening, this is how the speedo looks now. Overall everything is in good condition except the two brass gears. I'm going to ask a clockmaker (thanks for the advice John :) ) Perhaps he can help me. If not I'm going to keep the bits and hope to find a cheap spare one eventually. In the meantime ...

Re: Smiths Chronometric repair

A little update :) Dismantled the speedo yesterday and at first sight the main mechanism seems to be in good condition. There is a lot of metal dust from the drive gear. I'm going to clean everything in an ultrasonic bath at work and have a closer look. I wasn't able to remove the drive and gear for...

Re: Smiths Chronometric repair

Thanks a lot :) The article in the other topic is really helpful. Guess I will give it a go. Would be nice to eventually get it working as it is the correct one for my bike. At the moment there is a BMW unit mounted. I'm going to leave the dial and odometer as it is because I like the look of it :mr...

Smiths Chronometric repair

Good morning,

I would like to repair this Smiths Chronometric Speedo. Is it worth to try by myself? Any advices on how to do it? At least two gears are totally broken (see missing teeth on the 1st photo).

I'm grateful for any help :)

Regards
Chris

Re: Wanted - Steering Damper Collar

Thanks for the picture, Ray :) I've got some leftovers of 5mm steel plates. Slightly more than 3/16" therefore it should work.

Re: Wanted - Steering Damper Collar

Thank you Paul. I could not tell from the pictures but if it is that simple I'm going to make one by myself :)

Wanted - Steering Damper Collar

Good evening,

I'm missing the collar below the steering damper knob (4902-35). Does anyone have one for sale or at least a better picture and dimensions?
Thanks in advance :)

Re: W/NG rocker box - clearence?

You were right Alan, the washer was there. I didn't remember and didn't notice it on my photo. It's a bit difficult at the moment because I moved to the next city and my workshop is about 1 hour away :( I dismantled, cleaned and measured both rocker boxes today. On the exhaust side I found the oil s...

Re: W/NG rocker box - clearence?

Thanks you, Nev :) I'm going to check on the rocker boxes on saturday. You helped me a lot. By the way the picture above is from an old ebay auction, not my rocker box.
